Inaugural Flags for Unity — Memorial Day Weekend 2025

The Rotary Club of Allentown West launched Flags for Unity as a heartfelt tribute honoring personal heroes—military members, veterans, first responders, and cherished loved ones. Hundreds of full-sized American flags transformed the Parkland High School practice football field into a powerful landscape of remembrance, honor, and unity.

Location: Parkland High School Practice Field (campus entrance along North Cedar Crest Blvd)

Dates: May 22–May 26 (Memorial Day Weekend)

Ceremony Highlights

Opening Ceremony (Thursday, May 22 – 5:30 PM)

Highlights included an invocation, performance by the Parkland High School Band and keynote from Dr. Mark Madson.

Closing Ceremony (Memorial Day – 6:00 PM)

The closing ceremony included the missing man ceremony and concluded at 6:30 PM on Memorial Day.

How the Flag Display Works

Community members could purchase flags individually or in groups to honor the heroes in their hearts. After the event, purchased flags could be donated or retrieved following the closing ceremony.

Impact

All proceeds supported local veterans programs and the Allentown West Rotary Club’s efforts to combat food insecurity, including funding and packing weekly food packages distributed to Parkland students in need throughout the school year.
